Recently a youngster seeking an advice on starting a hobby after seeing my project website. He loves R/C models, kit cars and mecha models like Gundam and stuff. He prefers hobby that involved building and custom models that can grow by age. He asked me which is the best route to be a hobbyist related to working on models (R/C, kit models and etc). So i said to him; be a '3D MODELER'...go learn some 3D modeling skills. Because when you're good with 3D modeling skills you can create anything you want both for virtual use or real physical world via 3D printing technology. You can 3D design an R/C models, custom parts, model kits, mecha kits, figurine and everything you want based on your imagination. With such skills you can earn yourself a job in any related field from engineering, designers, visual media publishing to game developer. You no longer have to waste money on 'market ready' plastic models kits and stuck with it especially static ones being 'unsharable'. With 3D creation you can replicated, customized and share it with your friends for free or paid royalty while make your presence unique in the hobbyist community. Lots of great things can happen if you know how to creating things in 3D. That's the advantages being a 3D modeler than just a normal modeler hobbyist because you can have both models in virtual and real world without spending too much money plus able to food on the table through real world career. Btw i started my hobby as plastic kit modeller too in college days but progressed to 3D. Proof; if you 'Googled' around on internet for my 3D models and 3D printed ones they are swarmed all over places. I also have some published on magazines too. Yes i've been working with some developer too in the past, it was awesome experience! The day i learned how to 3D model was the day i stopped wasting moneys on plastic model kits.
Choosing path: Be a modeler or a 3D modeler?
